Each
project is executed based on a common set of fundamental criteria. First,
we make sure that the company's strategy is aligned with the industry's
mega-trends. Next, we position the company and its strategy within a
seven-dimensional taxonomy.
The taxonomy gives us a 'fingerprint' of
the company's competitive positioning that helps us formulate alternative
courses of action. Generally, the process of comparing a company to
its direct and adjacent competitors -- both qualitatively and quantitatively
-- energizes the company's thinking and results in new ideas or ways
of looking at the business.
Then, we position the company for 'competitive
efficiency'. One of our clients identified 53 competitors; we repositioned
the company to reduce that number to fewer than 10. Most importantly
for the owners of the company, we consider ways of presenting a client
to the capital markets to maximize value. Much of this work focuses
on the financial metrics that drive value in the capital markets.
Finally,
we conform the company's messaging to the themes that are 'hot' in the
capital markets.
